Calista Flockhart was born Calista Kay Flockhart in Freeport, Illinois, on November 11, 1964, to the family of Ronald Flockhart and Kay Calista. Her father, Ronald, worked as a Kraft Foods executive, while her mother, Kay, worked as an English teacher. She and her older brother, Gary was raised in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, New Jersey, and Norwich, New York. Why so many places, one could as? Growing up, Flockhart was a pretty smart kid. She wrote a play titled Toyland which she performed to a small audience at a dinner party. Years later, the university inducted Flockhart into its Hall of Distinguished Alumni in May 2003. A year after her graduation, she moved to New York City where she began pursuing auditions. At the time, she was working as a waitress and aerobics instructor to earn a living. She also shared a two-bedroom apartment with three other women until she left town in 1997.
