Career
John P. Kee was born in Durham, North Carolina on June 4, 1962. He began developing his musical talent, both instrumentally and vocally, at a young age. He attended the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem before moving to California with his brothers, Wayne and Al, at the age of 14 to attend the Yuba College Conservatory School of Music in Marysville, California. During this time, he began performing with a variety of bands, including Cameo and Donald Byrd and the Blackbyrds. After struggling to adjust in California, he relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina, only to find himself in a neighborhood known for its violence and drug activity. After witnessing the murder of one of his friends in a botched drug deal, he rededicated his life to God during a visitation to a revival meeting.
