Welsh actor Matthew Rhys fell in love with the actor at the age of 17 after playing the role of Elvis Presley in a musical. Subsequently, he applied to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London and was accepted. He was soon awarded the Patricia Rothermere Fellowship in 1993.
He made the most of his time at RADA, appearing in the BBC detective series Safeguarding and also in House of America. Rhys won Best Actor at the Bafta Cymru (Welsh BAFTAs) for his role in the film Bydd yn Wrol (Be Brave) which he returned to Cardiff to star in his native language. The actor is best known for his role as Philip Jennings in the Emmy-nominated FX drama series The Americans . Among his other notable roles is Kevin Walker on the ABC television series. Born on November 8, 1974 as Matthew Rhys Evans, the Welsh actor is professionally known as Matthew Rhys. He was born in Cardiff, Wales, to his father Glyn, a headmaster and his mother, Helen Evans, a teacher. Rhys had a normal childhood while growing up in Cardiff, where he attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art with his older sister, Rachel, who is also a TV personality and a BBC journalist.

After performing in a school musical as Elvis Presley, Rhys caught the bug and soon applied to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London and was accepted. Subsequently, he starred in several other films without even taking a break. In 1998 Rhys went to New Zealand to play Greenstone, a television colonial costume drama after which he landed a role in Titus starring Anthony Hopkins and Jessica Lange.
Rhys then returned to Wales and made two consecutive films with Jonathan Pryce – The Testimony of Taliesin Jones as well as the Sara Sugarman comedy Very Annie Mary.
The 2000s were also attractive for the career of Rhys, who continued to play major roles, including in a drama series for Granada TV Métropole. He also starred in The Peaches, the world premiere of the stage adaptation of The Graduate at the Gielgud Theater in London’s West End, Columbo, The Abduction Club, Love and Other Disasters, The Edge of Love, The Lost World, Brothers & Sisters, Deathwatch in Prague, Fakers, The Scapegoat and many more.
One of his prominent roles is The Americans, a 1980s Cold War drama series, which premiered in January 2013. He stars alongside Keri Russell with whom he has a romantic relationship.
